DataPath Spins Out Cybersecurity Business, Unveils MaxDefense

DataPath, a Top 250 MSSP, has partnered with private equity consultancy Five/I Enterprises and spun out its cybersecurity business as MaxDefense.

MaxDefense specializes in law firms, private equity firms and government contractors, according to the company. It offers various managed security services, including:

  • 24 x 7 x 365: Leverages MaxDefense’s security operations center (SOC) to monitor networks
  • Incident Response: Helps organizations detect and mitigate security incidents
  • Unified Threat Management (UTM)/Firewall Management: Performs ongoing device security updates and patching

MaxDefense’s managed security services are backed by a team of cybersecurity experts paired with an integrated suite of more than 30 cybersecurity tools, the company noted. They also leverage threat intelligence that is updated every 30 minutes.

What Does MaxDefense Mean for DataPath?

Moving DataPath’s cybersecurity business into a standalone entity allows MaxDefense to grow on its own, DataPath CEO David McDonald stated. It builds on the performance of DataPath’s cybersecurity business over the past few years and ensures organizations can leverage MaxDefense’s security services to protect their data and networks against cyber threats.

Meanwhile, MaxDefense delivers managed services that incorporate a multi-layered security approach, CEO David Ingram said. In doing so, MaxDefense empowers organizations to focus exclusively on their core operations and maintain the resources necessary to minimize risk.

BAE Systems Spins Out Cybersecurity Company

Along with DataPath, Applied Intelligence, a subsidiary of Top 250 MSSP BAE Systems, in July spun out SOC.OS. In addition, SOC.OS secured £2 million (nearly $2.3 million) in funding from venture capital firms Hoxton Ventures and Speedinvest.

SOC.OS helps internal security teams manage alerts from threat protection and detection tools, the company said. It also analyzes, triages and prioritizes security alerts and escalates the most important incidents to IT security teams.
