Fortinet will integrate its FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) capabilities into the Symantec Web Security Service (WSS) to empower organizations with security controls across cloud, endpoint and network environments, according to a prepared statement.

In addition, Symantec will integrate its endpoint protection solutions into the Fortinet Security Fabric platform, the companies said.

A Closer Look at the Fortinet-Symantec Integrations

The FortiGate-WSS integration provides organizations with cloud-delivered threat prevention in a single service offering, the companies indicated. It offers cyber threat protection, provides access controls and safeguards sensitive information for secure and compliant cloud application and web use.

Meanwhile, the integration of Symantec Endpoint Protection and the Fortinet Security Fabric provides organizations with real-time, actionable threat intelligence, the companies stated. It also enables organizations to automate their cyberattack response.

A fully integrated Cloud Firewall Service within WSS is expected to be available in the first half of next year, according to the companies. Furthermore, elements of the Fortinet Security Fabric have been integrated into Symantec Endpoint Protection, and the companies intend to explore future security integrations.

What Do the Integrations Mean for Both Companies?

The Fortinet-Symantec integrations could help both companies capitalize on a global cloud firewall management market that is expected to grow.

Global cloud firewall management market revenues are projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27.7 percent between 2016 and 2022, according to industry analyst Research and Markets. Also, the rising demand for cloud-based firewalls among organizations in myriad business sectors is one of the key factors that could accelerate the global cloud firewall management market's growth.
