Secureworks Hires Former Carbonite, Webroot Executive As CMO

Secureworks, a Top 250 MSSP and Dell Technologies subsidiary, has named Tracey Mustacchio as its chief marketing officer (CMO) amid Secureworks’ XDR (eXtended Detection and Response) partner push, new technology alliance partner program, and planned CEO transition.

Mustacchio previously served as interim CMO at Carbonite and Webroot, which are OpenText businesses. She also has led transformation and growth strategies for McAfee, Nuance and Secure Software and the global go-to-market strategy for IBM‘s Big Data portfolio.

Mustacchio will help Secureworks market its security solutions in innovative ways and find ways to accelerate its revenue growth, CEO Wendy Thomas said. In doing so, Mustacchio can highlight Secureworks’ ability to serve as a cybersecurity partner for global organizations.

The Mustacchio hire comes after Secureworks in June 2021 incorporated technology alliances into its global partner program. This provides cybersecurity developers with APIs and SDKs for Secureworks’ Taegis managed eXtended detection and response (XDR) platform.

Secureworks also announced its appointment of Thomas as CEO in June 2021. Thomas will succeed Michael Cote, who will retire on Sept. 3, 2021.

What Does the Future Hold for Secureworks?

Secureworks has made several investments in Taegis that could have far-flung effects on the company’s growth.

Dell and Secureworks in April 2021 announced a subscription-based managed detection and response (MDR) cybersecurity service powered by Taegis. The service provides 24/7 security across organizations’ endpoint devices, data center networks and cloud environments.

Furthermore, Secureworks in February 2021 unveiled an MSSP partner track within its Global Partner Program. The track allows MSSPs to leverage Taegis; or, MSPs can use the track to integrate Taegis into their offerings and become MSSPs.

Secureworks Taegis XDR Adoption

Approximately 500 Secureworks customers were using Taegis as of the end of the first quarter of fiscal year 2022, the company indicated. Secureworks reported Taegis generated $72 million in revenue during the time frame and annual recurring revenue (ARR) growth of 191 percent year over year.
