OpenText Launches MDR Security Service
OpenText, parent of Carbonite and Webroot, has launched a managed detection and response (MDR) security service to help customers find, investigate and eliminate cyber threats.
The MDR service delivers a 99 percent threat detection rate and 30-minute mean time to detection (MTTD), OpenText noted. In doing so, the service can help security teams quickly identify and respond to cyber threats.
OpenText MDR is built around a remote, cloud-based virtual security operations center supported by machine learning and MITRE ATT&CK analytics, according to the company. It is integrated with OpenText’s security information and event management (SIEM) platform, which can ingest security data and develop correlations between desktops, laptops, servers, firewall logs and other sources.
In addition, OpenText MDR uses BrightCloud Threat Intelligence Services to help security teams understand the scope and impact of security events, the company indicated. It also leverages endpoint and network technologies to help security teams combat zero-day attacks.
OpenText gained the BrightCloud technology when it acquired Carbonite and Webroot for $1.45 billion in December 2019.
A Closer Look at OpenText’s Security Portfolio
Along with MDR, OpenText provides a variety of security services, including:
- Privacy Assessment: Help organizations manage sensitive information and comply with data security mandates
- Security Assessment: Provide insights into an organization’s security controls and capabilities to help a security team prevent and respond to cyberattacks
- Threat Hunting: Allow security teams to use telemetry information from endpoints and cloud resources to perform identify and analyze cyber threats
Furthermore, OpenText offers MSSP services that combine security technologies with custom workflows, the company said. These services leverage machine learning and the MITRE ATT&CK framework to accelerate threat identification and response.
OpenText is a Canadian company that provides an information management platform to global organizations. The Carbonite and Webroot product portfolios extended OpenText into the MSP and SMB data protection, cybersecurity and cyber resilience markets.
Although the MDR market is growing rapidly, the industry also is crowded with MDR competitors and alternatives.
