PolySwarm, a cybersecurity marketplace provider offering in blockchain technology to crowdsource threat information, has launched a new malware intelligence browser plug-in, the company announced in a prepared statement.

The plug-in rewards individuals for the data they provide from simply browsing the internet. PolySwarm invites people to install its “NectarNet” browser plug-in to begin earning PolySwarm Nectar (NCT) tokens.

Cyber Defense Strength in Numbers

PolySwarm CEO Steve Bassi explained how NectarNet securely shares data , creating a collective defense across the globe to combat malware:

“At PolySwarm, we believe it’s time to reward individuals for the data they generate from simply browsing the internet. Through the launch of our new NectarNet browser plug-in, we’re accomplishing that goal and strengthening internet security by providing tangible monetary value in the form of NCT tokens to everyday internet users and real-time threat intelligence to our enterprise customers.”

PolySwarm’s token, Nectar (NCT), which operates on the Ethereum blockchain, is available in the U.S. and listed on Coinbase. The browser plug-in deposits NCT tokens into the user’s NectarNet wallet as they browse the internet. Correspondingly, the plug-in passively sends URL and domain data into the PolySwarm threat marketplace to be scanned by engines from well-known cybersecurity providers, such as CrowdStrike and SentinelOne, PolySwarm explains.

The amount of NCT rewards are based on the daily “$NCT pool” inside the marketplace and the relevance of the data that the user provides.

Andrew Nifie, NectarNet beta user and fintech general manager, described his experience with the PolySwarm plug-in:

"As a NectarNet beta tester, we added the NectarNet extension around a month ago, (and) we've had a really great experience with PolySwarm. We get NCT token rewards every day that our users work with their computers, and it requires no maintenance once set up. PolySwarm has achieved an incredible milestone in unifying a historically fragmented threat intelligence industry, thereby democratizing cybersecurity by directly rewarding users for their data."

Reliable Threat Intelligence for MSPs and MSSPs

No doubt, MSPs and MSSPs continue to seek reliable threat intelligence information to stay ahead of hackers. One potential option involves the CompTIA ISAO (Information Sharing and Analysis Organization) for channel partners. CompTIA partnered with Information Technology-Information Sharing and Analysis Center (IT-ISAC) and TruSTAR to build out a threat intelligence feed and custom reporting for the ISAO, the organization stated.

Meanwhile, PolySwarm works with various partners but does not specifically mention an MSP or MSSP partner program.
