The merger of Canada’s Cyber Unit and Techtone is intended to strengthen cybersecurity offerings for small and growing businesses, the combined companies announced August 24.

This is technology M&A deal number 752 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.

Consolidating Cybersecurity Services

Founded by CEO Omer Segoly, Cyber Unit notes significant growth and success with services such as malware detection and response, email security and monitoring, dark web monitoring, incident response and disaster recovery planning, according to a prepared statement.

A company spokesperson described Cyber Unit’s mission:

"For small businesses, sometimes it is hard to manage IT services while ensuring the business' data is always protected from cyberattacks. From monitoring and managing services to supporting growth, Cyber Unit takes charge of IT services and security, allowing businesses to scale and operate knowing their data is secure. Whether it is a short-term crisis or long-term partnership, the team at Cyber Unit is always ready to help."

The Cyber-Unit-Techtone merger consolidates cybersecurity services in the areas of:

  • Managed IT services (MSP)
  • Backup and recovery
  • Procurement
  • Asset management
  • Server support
  • Employee on/offboarding

More About Techtone

Founded in 2013 as a one-person business, Techtone continued to grow its IT Solutions business and staff of technology specialists, servicing clients from its home office in Vancouver, British Columbia. As COVID-19 became a reality, Techtone embraced a remote workforce, allowing the company to grow and extend its reach to clients across North America.

Building on its reputation as a cybersecurity specialist, Techtone incubated Cyber Unit as a separate company. Founded in 2019, Cyber Unit concentrated offerings around enterprise-grade protection to small and growing businesses, and has now grown to the point that it is taking Techtone beneath its wings.
