Cisco, Rackspace Partner for Multicloud Security

Rackspace is deploying Cisco's next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) and integrating them directly into its managed cloud hosting services, according to a prepared statement. By doing so, Rackspace helps its customers manage their hosted cloud environments more efficiently and securely than ever before.

Furthermore, Rackspace has piloted Cisco's security solutions and deployed and served as a testing partner for the company's ASA firewalls and Firepower NGFW. It currently deploys more than 22,000 Cisco firewalls to protect its customers against cyberattacks.

Rackspace also provides its customers with access to "Cisco expertise," said Kurt Rosenthal, Cisco's head of content and solutions marketing for service provider security. To date, more than 3,000 Rackspace hosting engineers have earned over 800 Cisco certifications.

Cisco, TIM Join Forces to Safeguard Italian Companies Against Cyber Threats

In addition to its Rackspace partnership, Cisco has announced plans to offer a secure platform service in conjunction with TIM, an Italian provider of mobile and fixed telecommunication services. The new service, TIM Safe WEB, protects TIM customers against malware, ransomware, phishing attacks and other cyber threats, according to a prepared statement.

TIM Safe WEB is built on TIM technologies and Cisco's cloud-based security platform. It leverages a global database of threat intelligence, Cisco said, and ensures about 600,000 TIM customers are protected against cyberattacks.

Cisco Addresses the MSSP Market

Cisco offers an endpoint security portfolio for MSSPs that want to provide advanced malware protection, internet security and enterprise mobility management (EMM) capabilities. The company recently unveiled three cloud-based endpoint security solutions for MSSPs: Cisco AMP for Endpoints, Cisco Umbrella (formerly OpenDNS) and Meraki Systems Manager.

With Cisco AMP for Endpoints, MSSPs can watch, analyze and record file activity to prevent data breaches and block malware at the point of entry.

Cisco Umbrella provides MSSPs with visibility across an organization's devices, networks, office locations and end users and blocks requests to access malicious or unwanted destinations.

Meanwhile, Meraki Systems Manager offers over-the-air centralized management, diagnostics and monitoring for an organization’s devices. It also unifies management and control of thousands of mobile and desktop devices, tracks device posture and adjusts an organization's security policies as needed.

Cisco Targets Cloud Security Services Market Growth

Cisco's Rackspace and TIM partnerships and cloud-based endpoint security portfolio could help the company extend its reach in a global cloud security services market that is projected to grow.

The global cloud security services market could be worth approximately $9 billion by 2020, according to technology research firm Gartner. Key factors that could accelerate this market's growth include evolving cyber threats and the operational and cost benefits of cloud security services.
