7. Kaspersky vs. United States: Kaspersky Lab has filed suit against the United States, seeking to restore the federal government's ability to use Kaspersky's products. The government barred Kaspersky deployments on federal networks, alleging the cybersecurity company could have ties to Russia's government. Kaspersky has denied the claims. We'll share more thoughts soon.
6. Security Budgets: A recent AlienVault survey of 233 IT professionals worldwide found that just 14 percent said their budgets for cyber security were increased following the WannaCry and NotPetya cyber attacks of 2017, and just 20 percent were able to implement changes or projects that had previously been put on hold, eSecurity Planet notes. AlienVault has been coming down-market from the enterprise in recent months, partnering with ConnectWise to reach MSPs that support SMB customers. Sources say that relationship is performing extremely well.
5. GDPR Drives Cyber Insurance: Roughly 80% of respondents are seeing rising demand for cyber insurance as a direct result of GDPR, according to a survey at the 2017 Cyber Symposium in London.
4. Rumor: Amazon is in advanced talks to acquire Sqrrl, a Massachusetts-based cybersecurity software company whose founders used to work for the NSA, according to an Axios report.
3. Talent: Cylance has promoted Rahul Kashyap to global chief technology officer (CTO). In addition to driving Cylance's artificial intelligence security strategy, he'll be developing analyst relationships and industry partnerships. He reports directly to CEO Stuart McClure.
2. Cyber Consulting Firm Hacked: Fox-IT, a well-known cybersecurity consulting firm in The Netherlands, confirmed that it suffered a man-in-the-middle cyberattack. Fox-IT shared lessons learned here.
