9. Marriott Starwood Breach - Sloppy Security Work?: A Wall Street Journal article alleges that Starwood should have noticed the 500 million user hack back in 2015 when the hotel chain was investigating a separate, smaller breach.

8. Kaspersky Lab vs. U.S. Government: Russian security firm Kaspersky Lab has had its appeal against a US public sector software ban thrown out by the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit Court, IT Wire notes. The security firm had been fighting the Department of Homeland Security decision to ban Kaspersky's software from U.S. federal networks. The DHS claims Kaspersky may have tis to Russia's government. Kaspersky denies the claim.

7. Upgrade: RackFoundry has launched Total Security Management (TSM) Version 5.2. It features rapid deployment, faster vulnerability scanning, and more third-party integrations, the company says.

6. Talent: The National Defense Information Sharing and Analysis Center (National Defense ISAC or NDISAC) has named Steve Shirley as executive director. He is the former executive director of the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) and vice commander of the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.  NDISAC is the national defense sector's non-profit organization formed to enhance the security and resiliency of the defense industry and its strategic partners.

5. DDoS Mitigation: NTT Com is expanding its DDoS Protection Services (DPS) with the addition of DPS Max. The new DPS Max features auto-mitigation, which detects attacks and automatically initiates mitigations based upon customer-defined thresholds. Sister business NTT Security is a Top 100 MSSP.

4. Symantec Shakeup: Three executives have left Symantec amid a shakeup at the security software provider.

3. Honor: Frost & Sullivan has named Trustwave, a Singtel company, the 2018 Singapore and Southeast Asia Managed Security Service Provider of the Year. Trustwave is a Top 100 MSSP.
