Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) News: 08 August 2018

11. State Sponsored Attacks: Iranian Hackers are developing ransomware attacks to help overcome sanctions and economic pressures on the country, according to a new Accenture report.

10. Smartphone Security Hole: Samsung’s Galaxy S7 smartphones contain a microchip security flaw, uncovered earlier this year, that put tens of millions of devices at risk to hackers looking to spy on their users, according to Austria’s Graz Technical University. The flaw involves the widely publicized Meltdown chip vulnerability.

9. Financial Results - Carbon Black: The endpoint security provider's revenues hit $51.0 million in the second quarter fiscal 2018, up  32 percent compared to Q2 2017.

8. Health Care At Risk: OpenEMR, a popular open-source software solution for managing millions of electronic patient records worldwide contained more than 20 severe security issues until very recently, ZDnet reports.

7. Partnership - Network Security: Meta Networks, which offers cloud-native network security, has joined the Symantec Technology Integration Partner Program (TIPP).

6. HP Printer Security Bugs: Days after launching its printer bug bounty offering up to $10,000 for researchers to find "obscure defects" in its printers, HP Inc. has released two firmware fixes for two severe ink printer bugs, ZDnet reports.

5. Security Analytics: A10 Networks has upgraded its multi-cloud analytics and management platform, the A10 Harmony Controller. It  now supports such A10 security solutions as Thunder SSLi (SSL Insight), Thunder CFW (Convergent Firewall), and the Thunder CGN (Carrier-Grade Networking). 

4. Talent - MSP CISO: New Jersey's eMazzanti Technologies, an information technology consulting firm and MSP, has named Almi Dumi its new chief information security officer (CISO).

3. M&A - MSSPs: ADT Inc. has acquired Secure Designs Inc. (SDI), a major MSSP that offers managed firewall services. SDI works closely with SonicWall and Fortinet, among other technology companies. This ADT's latest move in the small business security market. MSSP Alert will share more details later today.
