Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider, SOC (security operations center) and IT outsourcing ecosystem.

Here’s the lineup for Thursday, May 10, 2018.

8. White House Cyber Czar?: President Donald Trump’s national security team is weighing the elimination of the top White House cybersecurity job, multiple sources told POLITICO — a move that would come as the nation faces growing digital threats from adversaries such as Russia and Iran.

7. Cyber Security Veto: Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal this week vetoed legislation that would have criminalized accessing a computer or network "without authority" and allowed companies to take active defensive measures against suspected cyberattackers, citing potential national security consequences, Law360 reports.

6. Big Contract Win: McAfee and three channel partners have won a $550 million cybersecurity contract with the Pentagon and intelligence offices worldwide. The deal comes as the U.S. federal government removes Kaspersky Lab's software from agency systems amid fears about potential Russia government ties. Kaspersky has repeatedly denied any government ties.

5. Lackluster IPO: Avast shares fell about 2.6 percent in early trading during the company's first day on the London Stock Exchange. Avast acquired AVG ahead of the IPO, becoming one of the world's largest anti-virus security software providers.

4. Talent: MeasuredRisk has hired Symantec veteran Tony Alagna as CTO. MeasuredRisk software platform uses Artificial Intelligence to determine a company's potential for risk.

3. Funding - Cyber Insurance: At-Bay, the cyber insurance startup, raised $13 million in Series A funding. The round brings total funding to $19 million. Although interest in cyber insurance is strong, billionaire investor Warren Buffett recently raised some potential concerns about the cyber insurance sector.

2. MSSP Beta Test Coming: CSPi is pushing hardware into IT managed services, security solutions and packet capture products amid continued pressure in traditional technology markets. For the second quarter of fiscal 2018, the company's overall revenue decreased 13 percent to $22.0 million. The company plans to beta test an MSSP service this quarter, with revenues from the service expected to start before year's end,  CEO Victor Dellovo says.

1. Partnership: Terra Verde and SkyTouch Technology are partnering to offer a cybersecurity, compliance, and managed solution to the hospitality industry. Terra Verda is one of AlienVault's top MSSP partners, and the company has more than 1,250 managed security solutions customers.
