Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) News: 16 April 2019

Each business day, MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider, SOC (security operations center) and IT outsourcing ecosystem.

Here’s the daily business update for Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

7. Payroll Attack: Hackers have stolen $498,000 from the City of Tallahassee, Florida’s payroll system. The city is working with its bank to recover the lost funds, and all city employees still received their paychecks.

6. Funding: Path Network, a New York City-based provider of network intelligence and security, raised over $1 million in seed funding.

5. SIEM Platform Growth: JASK, a provider of cloud-based SIEM, has doubled its headcount to roughly 100 employees over the past year. Also, the company says total contact value grew 234 percent for the quarter ended March 31, 2019 vs. the corresponding quarter last year. The growth sounds impressive but it’s difficult to put the figures in proper context because Jask didn’t disclose actual revenue or profit figures.

4. MSSP Selects SOAR Platform: CyFlare has embraced Syncurity as the company’s Security Orchestration Automation and Response (SOAR) platform. CyFlare promotes a 24×7 Cyber SOC as an MSSP service that partners can resell or white label as their own.

3. Security Operations Center: DXC Technology has opened a Next Generation Security Operations Center (SOC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

2. IT Consultant Breached: Wipro apparently suffered a phishing attack that may have spread to customer systems. It’s the latest attack targeting MSPs and IT outsourcing firms as a doorway into customer networks. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has repeatedly warned MSPs about such attacks.
