15. Facial Recognition, Artificial Intelligence Concerns: A facial recognition tool that Amazon.com sells to web developers wrongly identified 28 members of Congress as police suspects, in a test conducted by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Reuters says.

14. Facebook Privacy Costs: Facebook's stock fell about 20 percent overnight after the company described rising costs for privacy safeguards. The net result is a major credibility gap between Facebook and investors, Barron's asserts. Overall, Facebook's investor call shook faith in the social network provider, The Wall Street Journal says.

13. Google Security: Google has unveiled Context-aware identification services for customers that leverage VPC Service Controls. It will be available soon for customers using ​Cloud Identity and Access Management​ (IAM), ​Cloud Identity-Aware Proxy​ (IAP), and ​Cloud Identity​, according to the company, TechCrunch notes...

12. Google Completely Avoids Phishing Compromises: Google employees have not fallen for a phishing attack since early 2017. The reason? Since that time, Google began requiring all employees to use physical Security Keys in place of passwords and one-time codes, the company told KrebsOnSecurity.

11. Google Cloud Container Security: CyberArk Conjur is now available in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Marketplace. CyberArk Conjur is enables developers to secure and manage secrets – such as SSH/API keys, passwords and certificates – used by application containers, the company says.

10. Funding: LoginRadius, a provider of Customer Identity and Access Management (cIAM) technology, has raised $17 million in Series A Funding led by ForgePoint Capital and Microsoft’s venture fund, M12.

9. Banking Trojan Reborn: The Kronos banking trojan, first discovered in 2014, has been reborn, according to Proofpoint's analysis...

8. Higher Education Security: The Community College Cyber Summit (3CS) is scheduled for Aug. 2-4 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.

7. Momentum - Check Point: Network security provider Check Point Software Technologies reported a better-than-expected second quarter net profit, Reuters notes.

6. Momentum - Identity Management: Comodo's global partner revenue surged 27 percent in the first half of 2018, the digital identity specialist says. The company has also signed on 19 new strategic partners.

5. Breach Detection & Monitoring Service: SOCSoter has added Breach Detection to the company's Vulnerability Monitoring Service (VMS) for SMB customers.  VMS is a monthly vulnerability scan managed by SOCSoter’s analysts, Paired with Breach Detection services, SOCSoter is offering the SMB market an increased ability to detect, respond, and protect, the company claims.

4. Talent: WhiteHat Security, an application security provider has named Matthew Hutchinson as VP of marketing, reporting to Chief Revenue Officer Matt Handler.

3. Talent: Optiv, a Top 100 MSSP, has named Palo Alto Networks veteran Nigel Gilhespy as European services director and Fujitsu veteran Rob Lay as director of solutions architecture in Europe. Gilhespy is focused on developing and expanding Optiv’s security services capabilities in Europe, while Lay is responsible for working with clients to help them select the right technology and solutions to rationalize infrastructure, optimize operations, and meet unique business objectives, the company says.
