Optus, Hastings Deering Announce Three-Year Managed Services Pact

Phone in the dark

Optus Business, an Australian company that offers cloud and data technology and enterprise mobility and risk management services, will provide managed services, cybersecurity and telecommunications support to earthmoving equipment and power solutions company Hastings Deering.

Under the terms of a new three-year whole-of-business information and communications technology (ICT) contract, Optus will provide Hastings Deering with the following services:

  • Data protection.
  • Managed security.
  • Unified communications.

Also, Optus will launch a unified contact center solution and telephony call-processing system for 2,500 Hastings Deering users and over 1,000 mobile services, the company said in a prepared statement.

What Does the New Pact Mean for Both Companies?

Optus will provide a managed service that could have far-flung effects on Hastings Deering's productivity and operating costs.

The Optus managed service delivers round-the-clock monitoring and on-demand support for Hastings Deering's private cloud and enterprise resource planning infrastructure, according to a prepared statement. Thus, the managed service may help Hastings Deering simultaneously become more productive and lower its operating expenses.

Meanwhile, the Hastings Deering pact represents one of several recent moves that Optus has made to bolster its managed security services market reach.

Optus last month invested $3.5 million into the Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), which the Australian government launched in September to help build the country's cybersecurity capabilities. With the Optus investment, the Cyber Security CRC has received more than $139 million in financing.

In addition, Optus in March announced an expanded five-year managed services and telecommunications agreement with Australian energy retailer EnergyAustralia. Optus now supports EnergyAustralia's expansion of security, data center, contact center and mobile management services, the company said, and continues to provide EnergyAustralia with voice, data and managed services.

Optus Managed Service and ICT Revenues Increase in 2QFY18

Optus reported its managed service and ICT revenues rose 15 percent year over year in the second quarter of fiscal year 2018, according to a prepared statement. The company also posted $2.1 billion in operating revenue during the time frame, up 0.2 percent year over year.

Today, Optus provides a wide range of technologies, including cybersecurity and mobility services. It boasts over 6 million 4G mobile customers and 75,000 subscribers.
