Trend Micro Joins VMware Mobile Security Alliance, Unveils Integration

Trend Micro has joined the VMware Mobile Security Alliance (MSA), which is designed to provide unified threat security via the integration of security solutions with the VMware AirWatch enterprise mobility management (EMM) compliance engine.

In addition, Trend Micro has integrated its Mobile Security for Enterprise mobile device security and data protection solution with the VMware AirWatch and VMware Workspace ONE EMM solutions.

The Trend Micro-VMware partnership drives communication between both companies' solutions, Trend Micro said in a prepared statement.

Trend Micro and VMware together will accelerate customer access to threat and mobile device management (MDM) information in one console, according to Trend Micro.

By doing so, both Trend Micro and VMware customers will be able to protect corporate data against mobile threats through policy enforcement and compliance and sharing device security posture information, Trend Micro noted.

VMware MSA: Here's What You Need to Know

The VMware MSA enables member organizations to provide "comprehensive cybersecurity with secure, simple and scalable options to protect mobile devices, apps, networks and cloud services," VMware indicated in a company statement.

Current VMware MSA members include:

  • Check Point Software.
  • FireEye.
  • Proofpoint.
  • Skyhigh Networks.
  • Symantec.

As a VMware MSA member, Trend Micro customers will be able to use the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, a global threat intelligence network, in conjunction with VMware AirWatch and VMware Workspace ONE, Trend Micro pointed out.

A Trend Micro Smart Protection Network administrator now can create compliance policies in VMware AirWatch and VMware Workspace ONE and assign these policies to one or more mobile devices for enforcement, according to Trend Micro.

Ultimately, this will provide Trend Micro Smart Protection Network administrators with the visibility to make more informed and faster decisions about compliance issues, Frank Kuo, Trend Micro's vice president of user protection products, said in a prepared statement.

A Closer Look at Trend Micro and the EMM Market

With the VMware partnership, Trend Micro looks poised to capitalize on the rising demand for EMM solutions.

MarketsandMarkets, a worldwide market research firm, has projected the EMM sector will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 36.9 percent between 2014 and 2019.

Moreover, MarketsandMarkets has estimated the EMM market will be worth $15.22 billion by 2019.
