CrowdStrike Mobile Threat Report 2019: 4 Key Findings

CrowdStrike's Mobile Threat Report for 2019 includes at least four key findings. The findings, taken directly from CrowdStrike's press release, include:

  1. Malware targeting mobile banking is likely to remain prolific, supported by a prolific underground industry of developers operating mobile “malware-as-a-service” subscription models to complement their desktop offerings.
  2. Targeted adversary groups continue to develop mobile malware variants, typically as ports of established malware families. Development capability has proliferated to less-skilled groups due to the accessibility of proof-of-concept mobile malware variants.
  3. Mobile malware running on the Android operating system is most prevalent at this time, driven by the ease of installing new applications from third-party sources.
  4. The current maturity level of mobile security solutions lags behind that of traditional platforms, leading to longer potential attacker dwell times on compromised mobile devices.

CrowdStrike and MSSP Partnerships

Cloud-delivered endpoint protection and security company CrowdStrike delivered stronger-than-expected financial results for the company’s first quarter of its fiscal 2020, ended April 30, 2019. It’s a safe bet MSSP (managed security services provider) partnerships helped to fuel the growth.

It was the first quarterly report that CrowdStrike has shared since the company’s successful IPO (Initial Public Offering) in June 2019. The company’s long-term business plan, as outlined in IPO documents, leans heavily on MSSPs.
