Continuum CEO Briefs MSPs on CARVIR Security Acquisition

Continuum CEO Michael George and several of his lieutenants further explained last week's CARVIR security acquisition to MSPs attending DattoCon18 today in Austin, Texas.

Continuum VP Matthew Waters; Senior Director of Product Management Brian Downey; CARVIR CEO Jay Ryerse and other team members were on hand for the packed session.

CARVIR is an MSSP that offers cybersecurity services to SMB-focused MSPs. The company had 580 MSP partners at the time of the deal, up from about 100 at this time last year, George says. CARVIR started out by focusing on ransomware threat mitigation solutions, but more recently expanded into SIEM and SOC services for MSPs.

That aligns well with Continuum Security -- a business initiative that the MSP-centric automation and outsourcing company launched in November 2017.

“Security is the new, sharp-edged sword for MSPs to drive sales. It’s an opportunity for you to completely differentiate yourself,” George told attendees. During his introduction, he reinforced the growing security threats SMBs faced -- and the growing skills gap that IT departments and MSPs face. Continuum Security solves for both of those variables, he asserts.

The company's security services for partners, Downey noted, now include:

  1. Detect & Respond – Endpoint (powered by SentinelOne) offers monitoring and analysis of endpoints to identify and remediate active security threats for SMB end-clients, the company says.
  2. Detect & Respond – Network & Compliance (powered by EventTracker’s SIEM technology) identifies and remediates attacks within networks and endpoints, and helps SMBs meet common regulations like PCI, HIPAA and GLBA.
  3. Profile & Protect — an existing Continuum service that allows MSPs to define, adhere to and determine how their current services are protecting their clients against common attack vectors, such as phishing and ransomware.

CARVIR SOC and Third-party RMM Tools

Former CARVIR CEO Jay Ryerse, now part of the Continuum team, assured existing partners and DattoCon18 attendees that the entire CARVIR team has joined Continuum. Moreover, CARVIR partners will retain the freedom to leverage third-party RMM (remote monitoring and management) software tools, he added.

That's an important point for thousands of MSPs that run RMM tools from Datto (Autotask) ConnectWise (Automate), Kaseya and SolarWinds MSP. We'll be watching to see if or how CARVIR continues to integrate with third-party MSP platforms.
