BlackBerry Unveils AI-Based Zero Trust Network Access Product

BlackBerry has announced BlackBerry Gateway, an artificial intelligence-based Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) product for SaaS and on-premises applications.

Gateway leverages telemetry data across an organization's applications, endpoints, networks and users to provide a Zero Trust experience, BlackBerry said. It assumes every user, endpoint and network is potentially hostile until its identity is authenticated.

What Does BlackBerry Gateway Offer?

Key features of Gateway include:

  • Evaluation of Internet destinations
  • Identity risk analysis
  • Segmented private network access
  • Cloud-based management console
  • Monitoring of network access and traffic patterns

Gateway is offered as part of the BlackBerry Cyber Suite and BlackBerry Spark Suites. It also can be used with the BlackBerry Protect endpoint security product to protect against cyber threats targeting devices, networks and user identities, the company noted.

Introducing BlackBerry Optics 3.0

Along with Gateway, BlackBerry has unveiled its BlackBerry Optics 3.0 cloud-based endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution.

Optics 3.0 collects security event data collected from an organization's endpoints, BlackBerry indicated. It then sends this information to a centralized cloud-native architecture and processes and analyzes normalized data.

In addition, Optics 3.0 features a "data lake" architecture, new search engine, advanced query language and flexible storage options, BlackBerry stated. It also offers threat detection and automated response capabilities to help organizations mitigate endpoint attacks in milliseconds.

What Do the Gateway, Optics 3.0 Releases Mean for BlackBerry?

The Gateway and Optics 3.0 releases highlight BlackBerry's commitment to delivering extended detection and response (EDR) solutions to global organizations. They come after BlackBerry CEO John Chen in March 2021 said he expects his company to record "double digit billings growth" for his company's cybersecurity solutions segment in fiscal year 2022.

BlackBerry offers security software and services used to protect over 500 million endpoints globally, the company said. It also provides AI- and machine learning-based cybersecurity and data privacy solutions.
