Carbon Black, a next-generation antivirus and endpoint security company, has hired Cate Lochead as its senior VP of marketing. In this role, Lochead is expected to help Carbon Black promote its CB Predictive Security Cloud converged endpoint protection platform and support the company's global expansion, according to a prepared statement.

Lochead most recently was chief marketing officer at MariaDB, an open source database created by MySQL developers. She also has held key marketing roles at Couchbase, Oracle and other technology companies.

The Lochead hire is one of several recent executive appointments by Carbon Black as the company looks to expand globally. Recent recruits include former Microsoft executive Victor Gureghian Baez as its VP of worldwide channels and former Microsoft and Dropbox executive Thomas Hansen as chief revenue officer. Hansen now leads Carbon Black's worldwide sales, sales engineering, channel sales and customer services.

What Is the CB Predictive Security Cloud?

The CB Predictive Security Cloud is a consolidated endpoint security platform that applies big data analytics across all endpoints. By doing so, the platform enables end users to make predictions about – and provide protection from – current, future and unknown attacks, according to Carbon Black.

Also, the CB Predictive Security Cloud uses a seven-step process to identify threats:

  1. Collect unfiltered data.
  2. Apply threat intelligence.
  3. Apply tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP) tags.
  4. Classify attack clusters.
  5. Identify new TTPs.
  6. Identify any false positives.
  7. Provide context for response.

The CB Predictive Security Cloud delivers next-generation security and IT operations services through the cloud, Carbon Black said. As such, the platform proactively identifies threats, Carbon Black noted, and provides a complete picture of a user's attack surface.
