CrowdStrike is acquiring Humio, a cloud log management and observability technology company, for approximately $400 million. The acquisition is expected to close in CrowdStrike's fiscal first quarter of 2022.

With the acquisition, CrowdStrike will leverage Humio's data ingestion and analytics platform to provide deep, contextual index-free extended detection and response (XDR) capabilities, the company said. Humio will enable CrowdStrike platform users to ingest and analyze unstructured and semi-structured data to resolve IT challenges, including those in DevOps and DevSecOps environments.
In addition, CrowdStrike and Humio will deliver a solution that operationalizes event and log data, the companies indicated. The solution will allow organizations to collect, observe, analyze and act on structured and unstructured data across their environments.
What Is Humio?
Humio offers a log management platform for distributed environments, the company noted. It provides large-scale logging and real-time analysis of data, metrics and traces.
Key features of Humio's platform include:
- Bucket storage for persistent data
- Free-text search on any data without indexing
- Query Monitor to understand which quotas are using resources
- Role-based access controls
- Sub-second notifications and custom webhooks
Organizations can use Humio's platform to aggregate and visualize streaming data, the company indicated. The platform lets organizations instantly process data — regardless of volume — and use it to gain insights into the health of their systems.
What Does the Humio Acquisition Mean for CrowdStrike?
Humio helps CrowdStrike expand its Falcon Security Cloud XDR platform's capabilities, CrowdStrike CTO Michael Sentonas said. The company elevates CrowdStrike's ability to solve security use-cases and address use-cases outside of security.
CrowdStrike will continue to innovate and advance Humio's platform to solve real-world customer problems, Sentonas noted. That way, developers, security analysts and IT professionals will be able to use CrowdStrike and Humio capabilities to explore threats and vulnerabilities, gain insights from computer-generated data in real-time and answer complex questions at the speed of the cloud.
