Framatome, a French nuclear reactor company, has acquired U.S. cybersecurity firm FoxGuard Solutions for an undisclosed sum. FoxGuard is expected to become Framatome's "center of expertise for cybersecurity in North America," according to a prepared statement.

FoxGuard strengthens Framatome's cybersecurity offering for the energy industry to include consulting, implementation and managed solutions, the companies said. It also ensures that Framatone can deliver security hardware and control systems equipment across the energy sector.

FoxGuard designs, manufactures and integrates computing and regulatory compliance solutions. It also offers a variety of cybersecurity products and services, including:

  • Asset Inventory: Enables organizations to identify and create an inventory of network devices, operating systems and other assets.
  • Patch and Update Management: Helps organizations overcome security weaknesses and vulnerabilities that could otherwise lead to data breaches.
  • Risk Intelligence: Offers industrial control system (ICS) monitoring, along with monthly intelligence reports.

FoxGuard has 110 employees, and its offices are located in Christiansburg, Virginia.

What Does the FoxGuard Acquisition Mean for Framatome?

The FoxGuard acquisition could help Framatome provide cybersecurity solutions to safeguard energy companies against cyber attacks.

Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting energy companies. For example, cybercriminals recently launched a Google Drive-based credential phishing campaign against an energy company, phishing awareness training provider Cofense reported. With the phishing attack, cybercriminals used Google Drive to bypass the email security stack and reach end users.

In addition, MSSP BlueVoyant in March partnered with IronNet Cybersecurity to offer the IronNet Cybersecurity IronDefense network threat analytics platform and IronDome collective defense platform to U.S. small and medium-sized energy providers. IronDefense delivers network behavioral analytics and integrated packet-level threat hunting, and IronDome shares cyber anomalies across an industry sector and provides cyber situational awareness and threat insights.
