VMware Carbon Black is the latest endpoint security business to expend into cloud-based Managed Detection and Response (MDR) security solutions. The company's new Cloud MDR offers security monitoring, alert triage and threat analyst guidance, VMware said.
The result: IT and security teams gain cyberattack insights and security policy recommendations and helps them remediate cyber threats, the company indicated.
MDR: Security Automation Plus Security Analysts
Cloud MDR is supported by security analysts who use machine learning and algorithms to monitor and assess customer data, VMware noted. These analysts notify customers' IT and security teams via email about threats and provide specific policy changes to address them.
In addition, Cloud MDR analysts offer incident remediation guidance and assist with threat containment, VMware stated. They also provide threat intelligence.
Alas, the announcement did not mention a partner strategy for the new service. We'll be watching to see if the new VMware Carbon Black MDR service is mostly a direct sales play, or whether there's room for MSPs and MSSPs to tap into the service as well.
VMware Releases Cloud Endpoint Vulnerability Management Module, Upgrades Cloud Workload Solution
The Cloud MDR announcement comes after VMware in August 2021 launched a Vulnerability Management module for its Cloud Endpoint solution. Security teams can use the Vulnerability Management module to monitor Windows and Linux endpoints for operating system and application vulnerabilities and prioritize remediation based on the risk of exploitation, the company stated.
Furthermore, VMware in April 2021 updated its Cloud Workload solution's capabilities. InfoSec and DevOps teams can use the new capabilities to secure containerized applications in Kubernetes environments, the company indicated.
VMware provides security solutions to help global organizations safeguard their IT applications and data. The company acquired Carbon Black in 2019 and continues to explore opportunities to expand its security portfolio.
