Tyler Technologies, a public sector software and technology services provider, has acquired cybersecurity consulting services firm Sage Data Security for an undisclosed sum.

Sage management and staff will join Tyler's enterprise resource planning (ERP) and school division, and an independent department for client data security will be created, according to a prepared statement.

In addition, Sage's current employees are expected to remain in the company's current office space in Portland, Maine, Tyler said. Sage President Rick Simonds also will continue to lead the company within Tyler.

A Closer Look at the Sage Acquisition

The acquisition enables Tyler to provide Sage nDiscovery, a managed detection and response (MDR) solution. nDiscovery combines human expertise with threat intelligence and advanced data analytics, Tyler noted, to help public sector organizations detect malware, ransomware and other cyber threats across IT environments.

Also, Tyler has incorporated Sage's data security offerings into its portfolio, and these include:

  • Advisory Services: Enable Tyler to help customers develop risk assurance policies and assist customers if their data has been compromised.
  • Assurance Services: Allow Tyler to assess customer systems for security vulnerabilities and conduct simulated attacks. Tyler then can use the test results to develop threat remediation plans for customers.
  • Threat Detection: Ensures Tyler customers can use threat detection software in conjunction with cybersecurity experts who review daily logs for new threats in a customer's network.

With the Sage acquisition, Tyler now offers an additional layer of security to public sector organizations, President Lynn Moore stated. The acquisition helps Tyler take a proactive approach to data security, Moore said, and allow public sector organizations to manage cyberattacks across the entire cybersecurity lifecycle.

Tyler Buys DaaS Solutions Provider Socrata

Tyler also this week finalized its acquisition of Socrata, an open data and data-as-a-service (DaaS) solutions provider, for $150 million. The acquisition enables Tyler customers to use Socrata solutions to optimize the value of data and analytics, according to a prepared statement.

The Socrata acquisition provides Tyler customers with access to a wide range of open data and DaaS solutions, including:

  • Cloud-based data integration.
  • Reporting.
  • Visualization.

The acquisition also ensures Tyler customers can use Socrata solutions to improve their performance, increase accountability, gain financial insights and extend citizen engagement, the company indicated.

Tyler provides end-to-end information management solutions and services for public sector organizations. The company today supports more than 15,000 government offices in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Australia and other international locations.
