VMware has unveiled VMware Carbon Black XDR, an extended detection and response solution that supports threat detection and prevention across endpoints and networks.
The company announced VMware Carbon Black XDR at its VMware Explore 2022 Europe conference in Barcelona, Spain.
A Closer Look at Carbon Black XDR
Security teams can use VMware Carbon Black XDR to identify threats and apply security policies across their IT environments, the company said. These teams also can leverage security telemetry within VMware Contexa (which VMware released in June 2022), a threat intelligence capability built on VMware's network, endpoint and user technologies.
VMware Carbon Black XDR is available in early access to select customers. To date, VMware has not announced when VMware Carbon Black XDR will be generally available.
Meanwhile, the VMware Carbon Black XDR announcement comes after Broadcom acquired VMware. This deal triggered concerns about VMware's partner program for MSPs and MSSPs, since Broadcom is best known for selling directly to enterprise customers.
Highlights from VMware Explore 2022 Europe
Along with introducing VMware Carbon Black XDR, VMware has made several announcements thus far at VMware Explore 2022 Europe, including:
- New VMware Cross-Cloud Services. VMware unveiled new VMware Cross-Cloud services to help organizations "navigate the multi-cloud era with freedom, flexibility and security."
- New SD-WAN Client. VMware's SD-WAN solution features a new SD-WAN Client to help organizations "more securely, reliably and optimally deliver applications, data and services — no matter where they reside."
- VMware Tanzu and VMware Aria Upgrades. The VMware Tanzu cloud-native app portfolio and VMware Aria cloud management platform now deliver "a cloud-smart approach to cloud-native application development, delivery and management that supports customers at every step of their journey, across any Kubernetes and across any cloud."
VMware provides multi-cloud services for all applications. It acquired Carbon Black in October 2019; at this time, Carbon Black had more than 5,600 global customers supported by more than 500 MSSPs, vallue-added resellers (VARs), distributors and technology integrators, and partners impacted more than 90% of its sales. However, VMware did not mention Carbon Black in its earnings report for the first quarter or second quarter of fiscal year 2023.
