MKACyber Hires Security Veteran to Lead MSSP Business, SOC Team

MKACyber, a Top 100 MSSP for 2017, has named Travis Aldrich as its VP of security operations. Aldrich will lead MKACyber's security operations center (SOC) team and MSSP business, according to a prepared statement.

Aldrich has 20 years' experience using and developing security technologies for data analysis, incident response, governance and compliance. He most recently served as director of IT security at Motiva Enterprises, which supplies gasoline and fuel to retail outlets across the United States. In this role, Aldrich developed and led Motiva's cybersecurity strategies and IT security framework, policies and procedures and managed the company's incident orchestration activities for breach response.

Prior to joining Motiva, Aldrich was a technical lead at Shell, where he managed the oil and gas company's enterprise content model and team, cyber defense senior analysts and threat hunting team. He also has held senior security engineering roles at cybersecurity firms NetWitness and Decurity.

MKACyber: Key Moves, Market Focus

In addition to the Aldrich hire, MKACyber last month appointed Stephen Cox as its VP of software development. Cox leads MKACyber's software development teams, the business said in a prepared statement.

Cox possesses two decades of IT and 10 years of security experience. He most recently served as chief security architect at identity and access management (IAM) solutions provider SecureAuth. Cox also has worked as a technical lead at cybersecurity and malware protection solutions firm FireEye and principal software engineer at NetWitness.

Mischel Kwon

MKACyber was founded in 2010 by Mischel Kwon, the former director of the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT). The MSSP specializes in SOC services and chief information security officer (CISO) advisory and collaboration support, and its offerings include:

  • Automated SOC: Provides an National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework-based methodology for building and managing SOCs that are guided by threat intelligence and organized into repeatable processes.
  • Security Operations Assessments: Offer baseline metrics that demonstrate an organization's security competency.
  • Managed SOC Services: Combine threat analysis with risk models to generate custom security architecture content, resulting in accurate security alerts and reduced security analyst alert fatigue.

MKACyber protects more than 300,000 IT assets across public and private sectors, according to the company. It also boasts a 98 percent customer retention rate, the company asserts.
