SANS Institute and Google have launched the SANS Cloud Diversity Academy (SCDA) to provide cybersecurity training and certifications to individuals interested in pursuing careers in cloud security, according to a prepared statement.
Reducing the Cyber Skills Gap
SCDA intends to reduce the skills gap in the cybersecurity industry, with an emphasis on cloud security, and create a more diverse and inclusive workforce, SANS Institute noted. To do so, SCDA will provide scholarship-based training of up to three SANS courses and associated Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) certifications.
In addition, SCDA provides accelerated SANS training and GIAC certification to help individuals quickly launch their cybersecurity careers, SANS Institute noted. People can join the academy to complete training and earn certifications within months and gain the skills and knowledge they need to build their careers in cloud security.
How to Join SCDA
People employed in entry-level IT or STEM roles are eligible to join SCDA, SANS Institute said. Meanwhile, priority may be given to individuals who are unemployed, underemployed or interested in a career change.
Furthermore, SCDA applicants must demonstrate their aptitude and passion for security, SANS Institute indicated. They must also be currently living in the United States and have work authorization as a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident.
The SCDA application window is now open. People can apply to join SCDA through April 14, 2023.
SANS Institute Announces Cybersecurity Training for IT Administrators
The SCDA launch follows the February 2023 release of a series of short-form technical training modules for IT administrators by SANS Security Awareness, a SANS Institute division.
The series is designed to increase awareness of the attack landscape that IT professionals face, SANS Institute said. It consists of 12 modules of task-specific training, with an average module runtime of 7.5 minutes.
SANS Institute offers cybersecurity training and certification to professionals at government and commercial institutions around the world. It also employs instructors that teach more than 60 courses at in-person and virtual cybersecurity events.
