Symantec has made multiple moves to boost the company's enterprise security software business. Among the moves that surfaced today, Symantec:
- hired Art Gilliland as executive VP and general manager of enterprise products;
- reinforced Marc Andrews' ongoing role as senior VP of worldwide sales with expanded responsibilities; and
- expanded CEO Greg Clark's title to include president.
Amid those shifts, Michael Fey has resigned as president and COO.

Symantec Executives to Watch
Gilliland previously served as VP of software enterprise security products at HP. He also was president and CEO of Skyport Systems, which Cisco Systems acquired in 2017.
Meanwhile, Andrews has served as senior VP of enterprise security worldwide sales since 2016, leading the engagement with the company’s largest customers, transactions and partners, Symantec says. He integrated the Symantec and Blue Coat global sales teams following that M&A deal in 2016.
Symantec: Progress Amid Competition, Buyout Rumors
The changes come as Symantec faces intensifying competition from next-generation endpoint protection and cybersecurity companies like AlienVault, Carbon Black, Cylance, CrowdStrike.
Symantec's overall revenues are shrinking but the company's endpoint security business is gaining momentum CEO Clark has recently asserted. The company also recently acquired Javelin Networks and Appthority for directory services security and mobile application security analysis, respectively.
Amid all those moves, Symantec may be an acquisition target for private equity giant Thoma Bravo, recent reports suggest.
