Fastly Acquires Web App Security, API Provider Signal Sciences

Fastly, an edge cloud platform provider, has purchased web application and API security company Signal Sciences for approximately $775 million in cash and stock, according to a prepared statement. In addition, Fastly will integrate Signal Sciences' technology into its upcoming SecureEdge security solution.

SecureEdge will provide a unified web application and API protection solution designed to help organizations accelerate digital transformation, Fastly said. The solution will leverage Signal Sciences' technology to help organizations automate their security decisions and maintain agility and visibility as they move code and applications to the edge.

What Is Signal Sciences?

Signal Sciences is one of the world's fastest-growing web app security companies, CEO Andrew Peterson wrote in a blog post. The company provides a hybrid and multi-cloud platform designed to eliminate the challenges of legacy web application firewalls, and the platform's features include:

  • API Security: Works in combination with API gateway solutions to protect APIs and microservices.
  • Bot Protection: Empowers organizations with the ability to identify and stop malicious bots.
  • Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP): Protects apps against cyberattacks and integrates into DevOps toolchain products.

Signal Sciences provides web app security solutions across finance, healthcare and other industries. It also offers web app security solutions for development, operations and security teams.
