Recorded Future, a threat intelligence and automated data collection and analytics company, has purchased malware analysis provider Hatching for an undisclosed sum.

This is technology M&A deal number 623 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.

Recorded Future, founded in 2009, is based in Somerville, Massachusetts. The company has 874 employees listed on LinkedIn. Recorded Future’s areas of expertise include threat intelligence, cyber analytics, web intelligence, security intelligence and big data.

Hatching, founded in 2018, is based in Zaandam, The Netherlands. The company is not listed on LinkedIn. Hatching’s areas of expertise include malware analysis and sandboxing.

Recorded Future Extends Its Threat Intelligence Coverage

Hatching provides Recorded Future customers with visibility into active malware campaigns in the wild, the companies said. It supports Recorded Future’s mission to provide organizations with intelligence that they can use to keep pace with evolving malware attacks.

In addition, the Hatching Triage malware sandbox solution will be integrated into the Recorded Future ecosystem, the companies said. Recorded Future customers will be able to use Triage to identify and analyze malware, generate security insights and use the Recorded Future Intelligence Cloud to correlate and enrich them.

How Does Hatching Triage Work?

Triage automates malware analysis for Windows 7 and 10, Linux, Android and macOS, Hatching noted. It lets end-users watch for malware and analyze it in real time.

MSSPs can integrate Triage into their managed security services, Hatching indicated. They can use Triage to perform up to 500.000 malware analyses per day.

Recorded Future Acquires SecurityTrails

The Hatching acquisition comes after Recorded Future in January 2022 purchased SecurityTrails, an attack surface monitoring provider. Since that time, Recorded Future has launched an Attack Surface Intelligence Module within its Intelligence Platform that leverages SecurityTrails capabilities. It also allows its customers to use SecurityTrails data in other Intelligence Modules.

Recorded Future uses natural language processing and machine learning to analyze threat data and provide organizations with security insights. It offers a partner program that allows MSSPs to use its Intelligence Platform to provide threat intelligence.
