Managed Security Services Morning Alert: 12 May 2017

Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global MSSP (managed security services provider) ecosystem.

Here’s the lineup for Friday, May 12, 2017:

8. U.S. Cybersecurity Executive Order: President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to bolster the government's cybersecurity and protect critical infrastructure from cyber attacks, marking his first significant action to address what he has called a top priority, according to Reuters. The directive largely favorable reviews from cyber experts and industry groups, the report said.

7. France Cybercrime: The Bank of France is warning citizens about an outbreak of fake bills, reports of bank accounts being frozen and of loans granted -- all to trick them into handing over account numbers and other such data, Bloomberg reported.

6. Endpoint Security Partnership: Exabeam, which develops SIEM solutions for Security Operations Centers (SOCs), has partnered with Crowdstrike to bolster endpoint protection through behavioral analytics.

5. Firewall Management: FireMon's Intelligent Security Management is now available for cloud and native cloud firewalls. As a result, FireMon can now manage traditional, on-premises firewalls and/or cloud firewalls.

4. Security Forensics: Fujitsu is upgrading and expanding its global managed security service to with home-grown forensic technology. The upgrade will shorten the time required to identify cyberattack damage. Typical forensics require weeks but the Fujitsu technology delivers results within minutes, the company claims.

3. M&A - IT Security Consulting: F-Secure has acquired Digital Assurance – a UK based security consultancy firm offering information security assessment services to governments and companies in the financial, petrochemical, retail, communication, and defense industries.

2. New IoT Botnet, Next DDoS Attacks?: A new Internet of Things (IoT) botnet called Persirai (Detected by Trend Micro as ELF_PERSIRAI.A) is targeting over 1,000 IP camera models, according to Trend Micro. Closely related malware triggered some of 2016's biggest DDoS attacks, the security company notes.

1. Countdown to Launch: Yup. We wrote this blog on Friday, May 12 — quite a bit before MSSP Alert’s anticipated launch day in a few weeks.
