Managed Security Services Provider Morning News: 04 January 2018

8. Homeland Security Breach: A Department  of Homeland Security Breach exposed data on 240,000 employees, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, positions, grades and duty stations. We'll share more details later today...

7. Distribution - Security: GNR has agree to distribute Kaspersky Lab's security software in the UK market. The move represents a vote of confidence for Kaspersky, which is trying to ensure that a legal tussle with the U.S. government does not spread worldwide. The U.S. government removed Kaspersky's software from all federal agency networks amid concerns that the security company may have ties to Russia's government. Kaspersky has repeatedly denied the claims.

6. Funding & AWS Focused Partnership: AlgoSec has raised $36 million from Claridge Israel. AlgoSec's platform automates and orchestrates network security policy management. The company's partner program includes an MSSP focus. On a related note, AlgoSec has partnered with MEGAZONE Corporation, the largest AWS partner in the APAC region.

5. M&A - Cloud Access Security Broker: McAfee has finalized the buyout of Skyhigh Networks, a cloud access security broker (CASB). With this technology, McAfee can now offer a cloud portfolio that addresses the three primary challenges of managing multi-cloud environments—visibility into networks, workloads and data, advanced threat protection and pervasive data protection, the companies claim.

4. M&A - Anti-Phishing: Barracuda Networks has acquired PhishLine, a SaaS platform for social engineering simulation and training. Combining Barracuda's AI-driven protection against phishing and spear phishing with PhishLine's platform gives customers comprehensive defense against email-borne targeted attacks and social engineering, the companies say. Financial terms were not disclosed.

3. M&A - Identity & Access Management: KPMG has acquired Cyberinc's identity and access management (IAM) business -- which includes a 190-person global team with significant presence in the U.S., IndiaAustralia, and the U.K., the companies say. Financial terms were not disclosed.

2. Security Training Conference: SANS 2018, a top InfoSec training conference, has announced its agenda for the April gathering in Orlando, Fla.
