Managed Security Services Provider Morning News: 06 November 2017

Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider, SOC (security operations center) and IT outsourcing ecosystem.

Here’s the lineup for Monday, November 6, 2017:

10. Scanning: Digital Defense Inc. has launched Daylight Scanning Time with Frontline Vulnerability Manager (a.k.a. Frontline VM), a cloud-based vulnerability management platform.

9. Hackers: A hacker group known as KeyBoy, believed to be operating out of China, has resurfaced with a new campaign, targeting various organizations in Western nations, according to International Business Times.

8. Kaspersky Technology Partners?: Kaspersky apparently removed nearly 70 partner references from the company's website in August, according to Fortune. It's unclear if vendors requested the removals or if Kaspersky made the changes on its own. The U.S. government alleges that Kaspersky has ties to Russia's government, and federal agencies have been removing the company's software from government networks. The security government denies the allegations. CEO Eugene Kaspersky said his company’s widely used antivirus software has copied files that did not threaten the personal computers of those customers, a sharp departure from industry practice that could increase suspicions that the Moscow-based firm aids Russian spies, according to Reuters.

7. DDoS: Zain Group’s fully owned global services subsidiary, Mada Communications is rolling out a new Distribution Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation offering to its country operations and international roaming customers, Zain says.

6. Cyber Insurance Tips: Follow these tips before you or your customers buy cyber insurance, according to National Law Review.

5. Office 365 Phishing: A new phishing scam impersonating Microsoft Office 365 hit Australian inboxes last week, impacting local organizations across the country, according to ARN.

4. Equifax Stock Sales: Four Equifax executives who sold stock in the days after the company discovered a security breach had no knowledge of the incident when they made the trades, Bloomberg reported.

3. Deep Learning: Sophos a global leader in network and endpoint security today announced that deep learning driven malware detection is now available through its Intercept X early access program. This deep learning capability has been developed using technology from Invincea, acquired by Sophos in February 2017.

2. Managed Security: eHosting DataFort has bolstered its managed security services portfolio such services as SIEM, Real Time Threat Monitoring (RTTM), Remote Managed Security Services, Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), PCI Security Services, Incident Response (IR), etc. This also includes eHDF’s new Cyber Defense Centre (CDC), which was launched earlier this year and lends a new dimension to Managed Security Services.

1. MSSP Business Development: CARVIR, a Top 100 MSSP for 2017, has launched a SentinelOne Management Console and Partner Dashboard. It features simplified access to reports, marketing & sales materials, training videos, technical resources, and more, CARVIR says.
