9. Bombshell BusinessWeek Report Sparks Global Security Debate: Britain’s national cyber security agency said on Friday it had no reason to doubt Apple and Amazon -- both of which refuted a Bloomberg BusinessWeek story that their systems contained malicious computer chips inserted by Chinese intelligence, Reuters says. Still, Lenovo and ZTE Corp shares slid on Friday, hurt by concerns about alleged malicious computer chips inserted by Chinese spies, Reuters adds.

8. New Hacking Accusations Against Russia: U.S., British and Dutch authorities jointly accused Russia of a widespread hacking campaign, describing on Thursday a persistent effort by the Kremlin to attack agencies that exposed Moscow’s alleged misdeeds, including doping by its athletes and the poisoning of a former Russian officer in Britain, The Wall Street Journal notes.

7. Partnership: SecurView and Avid Secure are partnering to promote a cloud security offering that leverages AI-powered intelligent monitoring, compliance and DevSecOps capabilities. Customers gain visibility, continuous compliance and security analytics on a single agentless platform, the companies claim.

6. Research - DevOps Security: The latest WhiteHat Application Security Report is a "call to arms" for DevOps teams, the company says.

5. Startup Preps Cyber Attacks: Randori, a cybersecurity startup led by a former executive at Carbon Black, emerged from stealth mode Thursday with $9.75 million in seed funding, BizJournals notes. The startup is developing an attack platform that will launch "real attacks" (rather than simulated attacks) against clientele...

4. Betabot Malware: Cybereason's Nocturnus team has discovered a spike in Betabot malware infections originating from phishing emails.

3. IT Management Vulnerability: CriticalStart's Section 8 threat intelligence and security research team has identified a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Paessler’s PRTG Network Monitor software. Paessler has introduced a patch for the vulnerability.

2. M&A - MSP Security Unit: Claranet, a well-known MSP in the UK, has officially launched a Cyber Security unit. The move follows Claranet's acquisition of Sec-1 and NotSoSecure, in addition to considerable investment in security services across rance and Portugal, the company says.
