Big HIPAA Fine: CardioNet, a Malvern, Pa.-based device manufacturer and a subsidiary of BioTelemtry, has agree to pay a $2.5 million settlement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) due to potential noncompliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules, according to Healthcare Informatics.
4. Alleged Hacker Arrested: Israel has indicted an 18-year-old American-Israeli Jew for a wave of alleged bomb threats and hacks against Jewish community centers in the United States that stoked fears of rising anti-Semitism, The Associated Press reports. His name is under gag order because he was a minor when many of the crimes allegedly were committed, The Jerusalem Post says.
3. IoT Security: Micron Technology and Microsoft are partnering to safeguard IoT deployments in industrial, automotive and consumer environments. The solution utilizes a hardware ‘root of trust’ integrated into Micron’s flash memory in the IoT device along with the Microsoft Azure IoT cloud to establish a strong trusted link between that IoT device and the cloud, the companies say.
2. Webroot Error: Webroot's security software mistakenly flagged Windows system files as malware on Monday. Webroot was working on an MSP fix for the error as of late Monday night. Stay tuned to ChannelE2E today for potential updates on the fix.
