Synopsys is acquiring WhiteHat Security from NTT Security for roughly $330 million in cash. NTT has owned WhiteHat since 2019. Now Synopsys gains those SaaS-based application security capabilities.

This is technology M&A deal number 421 that MSSP Alert and sister site ChannelE2E have covered so far in 2022.

Synopsys: WhiteHat Security and Tinfoil Synergies?

The WhiteHat acquisition potentially aligns with Tinfoil Security, a dynamic application security testing (DAST) business that Synopsys acquired in 2020. Tinfoil Security, founded in 2011 by two MIT alumni, develops software that identifies vulnerabilities on web applications.

Meanwhile, NTT Security launched the The WhiteHat Vantage Platform for developers and security teams in December 2021. The platform provides security coverage for web applications and API testing across the software development lifecycle (SDLC), the company asserts.

Both WhiteHat and Tinfoil appear to align well with Synopsys’s core focus. The company’s  software helps development teams build secure software. Customers can "quickly find and fix vulnerabilities and defects in proprietary code, open source components, and application behavior," Synopsys claims.

In a prepared statement about the deal, Jason Schmitt, general manager of the Synopsys Software Integrity Group, said:

"WhiteHat Security helped pioneer SaaS delivery of application security testing and brings powerful technology and expertise into our application security portfolio. WhiteHat Security's DAST capabilities complement our strengths in static analysis, interactive analysis and software composition analysis, while their expertise in SaaS will accelerate our security testing SaaS capabilities. Added Craig Hinkley, CEO of WhiteHat Security:

"We're thrilled to join forces with Synopsys in the next phase of our journey. The combination of our respective strengths and our shared vision for the future of application security presents exciting opportunities for our customers and the broader market.
