A. Today’s MSSP, MDR and Cybersecurity News Alerts
1. Live Blog – Black Hat USA 2021 Conference: Track the latest Black Hat USA 2021 conference news here. MSSP, MDR and XDR updates so far involve CrowdStrike, Exabeam, Qualys, Secureworks, XDR Alliance and more.
2. Italy Cyberattack: Hackers have attacked and blocked an Italian Covid-19 vaccination booking system, marking the worst cyberattack the country’s health service has ever seen, CNN reports.
3. Funding – Connected Device Security: Finite State has raised $30 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Energize Ventures and joined by Schneider Electric Ventures and Merlin Ventures.
4. Talent – Cloud SIEM: Sumo Logic Chief Financial Officer Sydney Carey has stepped down from the cloud SIEM provider to pursue other opportunities. Carey remains an advisor with the company until December 31, 2021. Sumo Logic, which works closely with MSSPs, has initiated a search for Carey’s successor. Sumo Logic launched a successful IPO in 2020.
5. Talent – Secure Access: Appgate has hired Jawahar Sivasankaran as president and chief operating officer (COO). Sivasankaran will lead the company’s growth strategy and oversee all go-to-market business operations, including sales, marketing, professional services and customer success. Sivasankaran reports to Appgate CEO Barry Field.
6. Talent – Identity and Access Management (IAM): Okta has hired Sagnik Nandy as president of technology and CTO.
7. Talent: Infinet Network Solutions has hired Kevin Koelmeyer as director of cybersecurity and network technologies.
8. Zero Trust Security: McAfee Enterprise has announced MVISION Private Access, an “integrated approach to enable granular ‘Zero Trust’ access and extend data and threat protection capabilities to private applications hosted across hybrid IT environments,” the company says. Side note: Private equity firm Symphony Technology Group (STG) completed the $4.0 billion McAfee Enterprise acquisition in July 2021. The security company expects to announce a corporate rebrand in the months ahead.
B. Cybersecurity Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Integrations
1. Partnership – XDR and Endpoint Protection: Stellar Cyber, developer of Open XDR, has partnered with BlackBerry to “accelerate adoption of AI-powered security solutions for enterprises and MSSPs.” The two companies are going to market together as a “catalyst for AI-based security adoption worldwide by offering an integrated solution.” The offering combines BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Security and Stellar Cyber’s security operations platform.
3. MSP & MSSP Cloud Marketplace: Climb Channel Solutions, an international specialty technology distributor and wholly-owned subsidiary of Wayside Technology Group, has launched a cloud marketplace called Expedition. The self-service cloud marketplace allows MSPs and MSSPs to source security solutions from Sophos, Trend Micro, Acronis, Bitdefender, and more, Climb Channel Solutions says.
