Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider, SOC (security operations center) and IT outsourcing ecosystem.
Here’s the lineup for Thursday, October 19, 2017:
5. Botnet Delivers Ransomware: Having previously been inactive for much of the first half of the year, the Necurs botnet has recently undergone a resurgence, distributing millions of malicious emails and Locky ransomware, according to ZDnet. We'll share more thoughts soon.
4. Intel Chip Hack: CyberArk Labs researchers have discovered BoundHooking, which allows attackers to exploit a feature in all Intel chips introduced since Skylake's introduction. The attack technique allows for the execution of code from any process without detection by antivirus software or other security measures, ThreatPost said. The result: An attacker can manipulate and spy on a wide range of Windows applications, the report asserted.
3. Security Operations Centers: McAfee is bolstering its artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for security operations centers (SOCs). Details emerged at the McAfee MPower Cybersecurity Summit this week in Las Vegas. The security company also strengthened multiple alliances -- including a longstanding relationship with Cisco Systems.
2. Cylance MSSP Initiatives: Cylance, the next generation endpoint security provider, has launched a multi-tenant dashboard to help MSSPs more effectively manage multiple customers. We'll share more details later today.
1. Cyber Conferences: The annual Cyber Security Summit kicks off next week in Minneapolis. Also, SolarWinds MSP will focus heavily on cybersecurity and MSSP build outs during the company's Empower MSP conference next week in Orlando. We'll closely track both conferences.
