Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider, SOC (security operations center) and IT outsourcing ecosystem.
Here’s the lineup for Tuesday, October 24, 2017:
7. Cyber Insurance Saves Hospital?: Erin County Medical Center (ECMC), a 1,000-bed hospital and nursing home in Buffalo, New York, several months ago raised its cyber insurance policy from $3 million to $10 million. Fast forward a few months, and ECMC suffered a massive cyberattack and ransomware issue that could have cost the hospital... wait for it... $10 million, according to Insurance Business Magazine. MSSP Alert has not independently confirmed the report or financial details. But we're poking around. Meanwhile, this cyber liability insurance primer for SMB owners explains key factors to consider before buying such insurance.
6. Security as a Service: GuardiCore's Centra Security Platform is now available via the AWS Marketplace, allowing customers to "pay per hour" as part of their AWS bill.
5 . IoT Botnet: Keep an eye on your IoT cameras. The reason: A mysterious botnet, dubbed the "IoT Reaper," is spreading across IoT cameras, Forbes warns.
4. Lost Security Manual: Officials at Australia's Parliament House concede they have no idea who has possession of a 1000-page security manual lost in November last year, despite calling in private investigators, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. For the record: We don't have it...
3. Talent: MSP industry veteran Amy Luby has joined Infogressive as VP of channel sales. Infogressive, a Top 100 MSSP for 2017, offers cybersecurity services to MSPs.
2. U.S. Federal Security: U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello wants the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to consider companies' security standards before making decisions on awarding federal contracts, according to Berks & Beyond, a media site in Pennsylvania. The big questions: Do those politicians even know what security "standards" to pursue?
1. Partnership: Skybox Security now integrates with SecurityMatters. The integration provides critical infrastructure organizations, such as chemical processing, power generation, oil and gas processing, telecommunications and manufacturing, with visibility of both their IT and operational technology (OT) networks, including industrial control systems (ICS), the companies assert.
