1. Funding Round: Opal Security, an identity security and access management company, has received $22 million Series B funding, led by Battery Ventures, with participation from existing investors Greylock and Box Group. The round brings Opal Security’s total funding to date to $32 million.

2. Security Initiative: ThreatNG Security, an external attack surface management, digital risk protection and security ratings cybersecurity solutions provider, has launched its open-source project, the ThreatNG Governance and Compliance Dataset. This initiative aims to democratize access to critical data, fostering transparency, collaboration and collective improvement of cybersecurity practices globally, the company said.

3. First Responders Concerned About Cybersecurity, Study Says: Mark43, a cloud-native public safety software company, has announced the results of a U.S. national survey of first responders revealing major concerns with cybersecurity, disaster recovery and information-technology (IT) resilience. As public safety professionals want technology upgrades and adoption of federal standards for first responder IT security, reporting and efficiency, the 2024 U.S. Public Safety Trends Report documents the complete survey results.

4. Cybersecurity Education Initiative: The American Public University System (APUS) announced that it will offer an accelerated Bachelor of Science Degree in Cybersecurity in connection with the College in 3 Exchange. Students can register for the three-year bachelor's degree starting in April 2024. APUS, designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) by the National Security Agency (NSA), is one of only 13 U.S.-based higher education institutions participating in the College in 3 Exchange. The exchange is a national effort which encourages universities to reimagine the traditional four-year bachelor's curriculum.

5. Cyber Education Acquisition: ACI Learning, an audit, cybersecurity and IT training organization, has acquired Infosec Learning, a digital skills learning platform for cybersecurity, cyber ranges and software training. This marks ACI's 4th add-on acquisition as a Boathouse Capital portfolio company.

6. Leadership Move: HaystackID, a specialized eDiscovery services company supporting law firms and corporations globally, has hired former White House Deputy Chief Information Security Officer Shawn Belovich as senior vice president of Digital Forensics and Cyber Incident Response. Belovich brings a wealth of technical expertise from the public and private sectors, including directing cyber initiatives in the White House, to advance HaystackID's portfolio of cybersecurity, incident response and cyber discovery services that help clients prepare for and react to cyber threats, the company said.

7. Security Partnership: Foresite has formed a new partnership with CrowdStrike to provide customers the opportunity to leverage the AI-powered CrowdStrike Falcon platform with Foresite's proprietary ProVision Managed Services for Foresite's channel partners and their customers.

8. Shipbuilder Suffers Cyberattack: Austal USA, a shipbuilding company and a contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), confirmed that it suffered a cyberattack and is currently investigating the impact of the incident. The Hunters International ransomware and data extortion group claimed to have breached Austal USA and leaked some information as proof of the intrusion. (Source: Bleeping Computer)

9. Security Partnership: runZero, a specialist in cyber asset attack surface management (CAASM), and Carahsoft Technology Corp. have announced a partnership. Carahsoft will serve as runZero’s Master Government Aggregator, making the company’s CAASM solutions available to the Public Sector through Carahsoft’s reseller partners and NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP) V, Information Technology Enterprise Solutions – Software 2 (ITES-SW2), National Cooperative Purchasing Alliance (NCPA) and OMNIA Partners contracts.
