Share

Each morning MSSP Alert broadcasts a quick lineup of news, analysis and chatter from across the global managed security services provider ecosystem.

Here’s the lineup for Friday, July 28, 2017:

7. Voting Machine Breaches: Hackers attending this weekend's Def Con convention in Las Vegas will have a chance to break into voting machines and voter databases in a bid to uncover vulnerabilities that could be exploited to sway election results, Reuters reported.

6. Talent: NowSecure, which specializes in mobile app security testing, has hired Brian Murphy as senior VP of sales, and Brian Reed as chief marketing officer. Both are veterans of  Good Technology (acquired by BlackBerry) and BoxTone.

5. Sophos Growth: Sophos says its fiscal year 2017 reported billings grew 18.2 percent to $632.1 million, or by 19.9% at constant currency, with strong momentum across all regions and products, the company said.

4. Next Webroot Moves: Watch for the company to aggressively promote DNS solutions, competing fiercely against Cisco Umbrella (formerly OpenDNS). But that's not all. Webroot has been building out an overall platform strategy for its MSP ecosystem. We'll share more details soon.

3. IoT Security Audits: Keep a close eye on Armis, a startup that develops a platform that discovers all IoT devices. So what's the upside here? For MSSPs, this is a potential platform to perform IoT device discovery audits for customers... We'll share more thoughts soon.

2. SOC for MSPs: Some rather interesting moves from eSentire, which claims to go over and above traditional MSSPs like SecureWorks. The company is in fast-growth mode, backed by MSSP veterans from the likes of Symantec. More details soon.

1. Thanks: To the dozens of technology companies and executives who briefed MSSP Alert during Black Hat USA 2017 this week in Las Vegas. All of our coverage from the conference (so far) is here. But there's plenty more to come.
