8. Big Bitcoin Bust?: Pennsylvania prosecutors may have stumbled onto a $40 million Bitcoin heist while tracking Theodore Price for alleged laptop thefts. But so far, it's not clear whether Price's brash claims are true, according to The Washington Post.
7. Hacker Claims: A hacker who goes by the name “BestBuy” admitted to a German court on Friday that he was behind an attack last year that knocked close to 1 million customers of German ISP Deutsche Telekom offline, according to Threatpost.
6. Security Patents: IBM engineers have been granted a patent on an approach for utilizing the inherent structure of a printed circuit board (PCB) to protect cryptographic keys and codes in a manner that is designed to be highly tamper-resistant, the company asserts. The invention could help protect keys and codes that encrypt data stored on any platform whether your data is in the cloud or an enterprise storage system, IBM said. The big question: How soon will IBM monetize this technology? Hmmm...
5. Kaspersky Lab and Government Agencies: U.S. local government agencies across the country are continuing to use software from Kaspersky Lab, according to IT Wire, even though the federal government removed the company from a list of approved software suppliers for two government-wide purchasing contracts that are used to buy technology services. U.S. federal officials claim Kaspersky Lab may have ties to Russia's government. The security company has repeatedly denied the accusations.
4. Partner Certification: Webroot has launched a certification program for MSPs and VARs that covers key feature differentiators, deployment best practices, cybersecurity management, and basic troubleshooting techniques for SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection. 3. Qualys Security: Qualys has unveiled CloudView, giving InfoSec and DevSecOps teams a "single pane of glass" view of security and compliance across cloud infrastructures like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. The first two apps in CloudView include Cloud Inventory (CI) and Cloud Security Assessment (CSA).
2. Proficio, Splunk and SIEM: Proficio has bolstered its Splunk offering to help customers with their SIEM (security information and event management) environments, the company says. Proficio’s enhanced services for Splunk include a 24x7 cloud-based security operations center; monitoring, investigation, alerting and response; and more.
1. MSSP Expansion: Abacode, an MSSP, at the conference is describing its expanded Security as a Service offerings across the Americas, Caribbean, Europe and United Kingdom. Abacode has multiple security operations centers and a cyber lab. The company's services include 24/7/365 SIEM & SOC monitoring & remediation services. Also, a virtual SOC-only service can monitor an organization's current SIEM.
