Quantum computing company IonQ announced its intent to acquire Elisity, a Zero Trust provider, in an all-stock transaction valued at up to $1.3 billion. This strategic move aims to integrate Elisity's microsegmentation technology with IonQ's post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution capabilities, enhancing cybersecurity defenses for the quantum era, with further coverage provided by Channel Insider.
The acquisition, announced Oct. 12 and expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, will combine IonQ's quantum-ready security solutions with Elisity's established enterprise customer base of over 100 global deployments and its IdentityGraph platform. Elisity's microsegmentation software limits unnecessary system communication, a capability that complements post-quantum cryptography by containing potential network breaches. While this acquisition prepares for future quantum threats, it does not make current encryption quantum-resistant. Elisity, which serves industries including healthcare, brings recurring revenue and relationships with CISOs.
IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi sees this as a path to critical infrastructure and Fortune 500 clients, preparing for AI and quantum threats. IonQ plans to integrate cryptographic inventory and risk data into Elisity's platform to help customers identify necessary encryption upgrades. The deal's impact on the channel, including MSPs and resellers, is anticipated to create service opportunities in network defense and quantum readiness, though specific partner programs are yet to be announced. Key areas for partners to monitor include product integration, changes to Elisity's partner arrangements, and future channel enablement requirements.
