Kaspersky survey reveals SMBs face increasing cyber threats

A new global survey by Kaspersky highlights the growing need for advanced cybersecurity protection among small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), detailing the motives of threat actors and the damaging consequences of cyber-attacks, as first reported by TahawulTech.

The survey found that 86% of SMBs globally experienced at least one cyber incident in the past year, with phishing, malware, and ransomware being the most damaging threats. Financial loss and theft of customer data were cited as the leading consequences. Attackers primarily targeted IT and IT-security teams, with accounting and finance departments also frequently compromised. Notably, SMBs are more susceptible to attacks through customer-service channels compared to larger enterprises.

In response, companies are prioritizing IT security monitoring, third-party compliance, and credential management. Kaspersky recommends SMBs implement specialized security solutions, integrate daily backups, establish strict internal processes, and manage human risk through continuous training to minimize losses.
