NeuShield adds exfiltration protection to Data Sentinel as ransomware tactics shift

NeuShield has added a new Exfiltration Protection capability to Data Sentinel, giving organizations more control over how sensitive files can be accessed when user credentials or endpoints are compromised. The feature is designed to block unauthorized access to protected files before attackers can steal or encrypt them, addressing the growing use of data theft as part of ransomware campaigns.

The new capability restricts access based on how a file is being reached. Protected files remain available through NeuShield’s secure Windows Explorer namespace, while attempts through command-line tools, scripts, remote sessions, malware and ransomware can be blocked. NeuShield also creates a protected Data Vault within each user’s Documents folder, with administrators able to extend protection to other folders and manage policies centrally through the company’s management portal.

For MSPs and security teams, the update adds another control around ransomware recovery and data protection without requiring changes to the endpoint security, identity or backup tools already in place. That matters as ransomware operations increasingly use stolen credentials and legitimate access paths to reach sensitive data, creating gaps that can be difficult to address through detection alone.

Exfiltration Protection is available now as part of NeuShield Data Sentinel through NeuShield and its authorized partners. The update gives NeuShield a broader role in ransomware defense by extending Data Sentinel beyond restoring files after an attack and into controlling how protected data can be accessed before theft or encryption occurs.
