Proofpoint has opened a new office in Singapore, establishing it as the company’s regional headquarters for Asia Pacific and Japan, reports Security Brief Asia. The facility will serve as a central hub for operations including engineering, sales, marketing, human resources, and a newly formed AI research and development team. The move aligns with Singapore’s growing role as a technology centre, supported by strong infrastructure and access to skilled talent. The expansion comes amid rising cybersecurity concerns in the region, particularly as generative AI tools are increasingly exploited for sophisticated threats. Proofpoint reports notable year-on-year increases in email fraud across Japan and South Korea, while in Singapore, over half of surveyed CISOs identify generative AI as a security risk. The company aims to respond to this shift by focusing on AI-driven, human-centric cybersecurity solutions tailored to regional challenges.Proofpoint’s new Singapore-based AI team includes more than 20 specialists tasked with developing technologies to defend against data breaches and targeted attacks. The company notes that human behaviour remains a key vulnerability, with internal data showing that most cybersecurity incidents involve user actions. This has prompted a shift in strategy, with organisations increasingly prioritising user-focused protections over traditional perimeter-based security models. The Singapore expansion builds on Proofpoint’s earlier acquisition of local AI firm Dathena and reflects the company’s broader investment in regional engagement. In addition to product development, Proofpoint supports cybersecurity awareness efforts through employee training programs and its involvement in the SG Cyber Safe initiative. With a growing regional footprint, the company now protects more than 13.6 million workers across Asia Pacific and Japan.
