While President Donald Trump has been known to crack down on laws and initiatives unveiled by his Democrat predecessors, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are expected to prevent his planned repeal of the Biden-era CHIPS and Science Act that allocated $50 billion to support domestic semiconductor manufacturing, according to SC Media.Revoking the CHIPS and Science Act would significantly reverse strides made by the U.S. in the semiconductor sector, said Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), in a House Subcommittee on Science, Space and Technology session."CHIPS and Science bolstered our research agencies' resources and catalyzed cross-governmental harmonization of research security policies," said Lofgren. "Unfortunately, the progress will backslide due to recent decisions."Republican lawmakers were also noted by their aides and staffers to be hesitant to kill the bipartisan legislation, reported NBC News. Despite congressional opposition, Trump could still curtail the law, with CHIPS and Science Act projects among those that were recently cut by the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency, widely-known as DOGE.
