MSSP Trustwave Launches Threat Hunting Service for Government Agencies

Trustwave, a Top 100 MSSP and compliance, threat and vulnerability management services provider, has unveiled a cybersecurity service designed to help government agencies quickly detect and address cyber threats.

The new service, Threat Hunting for Government, provides government agencies with insights into security vulnerabilities, according to a prepared statement. It pairs cloud and managed security services with hands-on deep investigations from the Trustwave SpiderLabs security team, the company said, and allows government agencies to leverage behavioral analytics and threat intelligence to identify threats, isolate malicious behavior and mitigate data breaches.

SpiderLabs is widely respected in the MSSP market, consistently uncovering, documenting and mitigating threats that otherwise remain below the radar. A recent example involves a macro-less form of malware that attacks Microsoft Word.

How Does Threat Hunting for Government Work?

Threat Hunting for Government ensures government agencies can collect and analyze security events and identify anomalous behavior before it escalates, Trustwave said.

With Threat Hunting for Government, SpiderLabs security consultants examine corporate endpoints and network traffic using cyber threat intel, behavioral analytics, anomaly detection and forensic analysis, according to Trustwave. By doing so, these consultants can identify previously unknown cyberattackers on client networks.

SpiderLabs security consultants also cross-reference and correlate their security findings with additional intelligence on security events from endpoint detection and response (EDR) technologies and global threat intelligence, Trustwave indicated. That way, these consultants can analyze a government agency's current state of compromise and threat vulnerability.

Threat Hunting for Government is now available and can be used on-site or remotely.

Trustwave and the Government Cybersecurity Market

Threat Hunting for Government is one of several security solutions that could help Trustwave extend its reach in the government cybersecurity market.

In addition to Threat Hunting for Government, other Trustwave security solutions for government agencies include:

  • Application Scanning: Enables government agencies to perform vulnerability testing to safeguard web and mobile applications.
  • Network Access Control: Ensures managed and unmanaged devices connecting to a network comply with a government agency's security policies and do not introduce malware.
  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM): Provides network threat visibility and helps government agencies improve their compliance processes via logging, monitoring and analysis of security events.
  • Web Application Firewall: Protects web applications against external attackers who may use SQL injections and other vulnerabilities to steal sensitive information.

Meanwhile, the U.S. federal cybersecurity market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12 percent between 2017 and 2022, according to industry analyst Market Research Media. This sector also could be worth approximately $22 billion by 2022.
