Comcast Technology Solutions (CTS) and Snowflake, a data cloud provider, have collaborated to produce and host DataBee, a cloud-native data fabric platform for security, risk and continuous controls monitoring, according to a prepared statement.

What DataBee Does

DataBee enables large enterprises to perform multiple security functions, including identifying potential cybersecurity threats against systems, data and enterprise users, the company said. Snowflake is a strategic partner in the development and launch of DataBee, which operates on the Snowflake Data Cloud, where data is stored, processed and analyzed.

DataBee, which is tied to CTS’ strategy to improve operations and cybersecurity oversight, is offered by a newly created cybersecurity business unit within CTS. The cybersecurity wing is focused on delivering Comcast-developed enterprise-level security innovations to market.

DataBee spans security, risk, privacy and security controls compliance missions with use cases in advanced threat detection, threat hunting, continuous controls assurance, SIEM decoupling, behavioral analysis and more, the company said.

Finding the Bad Actors

The company’s chief information security officer’s unit, security operations center, threat hunter and governance risk and compliance teams have been using the platform since it was developed three years ago,

As Nicole Bucala, CTS DataBee vice president and general manager, told SDxCentral:

“It was so successful at improving speed, time to detection, efficiency, enabling our threat hunters to hunt for bad actors much more quickly, helping us to produce compliance reports much faster."

DataBee is now externally available for commercial use. Commenting on the launch, Noopur Davis, Comcast Cable executive vice president, chief information security and product privacy officer, said:

“The security data fabric has changed the way we do security, supporting multiple detection and compliance functions across our organization, while improving effectiveness, reducing complexity, and helping us avoid costs. For a company with an incredible amount of security data to review and analyze — roughly 10 petabytes — our platform truly advances state-of-the-art cybersecurity for Comcast, our customers and the industry. When new threats or malware are discovered, we can now identify and act on indicators of compromise within minutes.”
