IBM Security Partners with Thycotic, Adds Privileged Access Solution

IBM

IBM Security has added the Thycotic Secret Server privileged access management (PAM) solution to its portfolio, according to a prepared statement.

Now, IBM Security's MSSP partners can leverage Secret Server to protect customers' privileged accounts, Thycotic noted.

Secret Server enables MSSPs to discover, manage, audit, monitor and control access to privileged accounts across Windows, Unix and Linux systems on-premise or in the cloud, Thycotic indicated.

MSSPs can use Secret Server to implement various application control policies, including whitelisting, blacklisting and greylisting for domain and non-domain Mac and Windows endpoints, according to Thycotic.  In addition, Secret Server allows MSSPs to implement and enforce least-privilege best practices.

Secret Server also helps MSSPs safeguard customers against insider threats and external cyberattacks, Thycotic stated. It is scalable across all business departments, Thycotic said, and helps MSSPs ensure privileged users are granted appropriate access permissions at all times.

Organizations Struggle with PAM

A lack of PAM processes and policies often leaves organizations susceptible to security breaches, according to a global survey of 913 IT professionals conducted by identity and access management (IAM) solutions provider One Identity and technology market research firm Dimensional Research.

Key findings from the One Identity-Dimensional survey included:

  • 95 percent of IT professionals monitor privileged access, but less than half monitor all access.
  • 93 percent have a process in place for identifying overprivileged users, but only 14 percent use PAM tools as part of this process.
  • 36 percent use Excel and 18 percent use paper to manage privileged access.

MSSPs should expect the push for PAM solutions to increase in the years to come.

The global PAM solutions market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32.7 percent between 2016 and 2021, market research firm MarketsandMarkets indicated. Also, MarketsandMarkets has estimated the global PAM solutions sector could be worth nearly $3.8 billion by 2021.

Thycotic Partners with MSSPs

The Thycotic partner program enables channel partners to provide their customers with end-to-end security solutions. It currently supports more than 180,000 IT administrator users and 7,500 global customers, according to Thycotic.

MSSPs can leverage Thycotic's PAM solutions to provide security information and event management (SIEM), vulnerability scanning and user activity monitoring, the company said. By doing so, MSSPs can use Thycotic's solutions to capitalize on a rapidly growing PAM solutions market.
