Arctic Wolf, a cloud-based security operations platform provider, has hired Sophos veteran Dan Schiappa as its chief product officer. The move comes as Arctic Wolf prepares for a potential IPO (initial public offering).

Schiappa is responsible for driving innovation across Arctic Wolf's product, engineering and business development teams, the company said. He has more than 20 years of experience in the technology and security sectors. Schiappa most recently served as CPO at Sophos, where he managed the company's end-user security, network security, public cloud, messaging security and cloud platform groups.

Prior to joining Sophos, Schiappa was senior VP and GM of the identity and data protection group at RSA. While there, Schiappa managed a business unit responsible for authentication, identity management, anti-fraud, encryption and data center operations.

In addition, Schiappa has held several GM positions at Microsoft. He also helped Microsoft expand its BitLocker and Rights Management services.

Arctic Wolf's Cloud-based SOC Platform

Schiappa arrives amid Arctic Wolf's march toward a potential IPO -- which may arrive in the first half of 2022.

Arctic Wolf, a fast-growth business, has previously positioned itself around managed detection and response (MDR) and security operations center as a service (SOCaaS). Most recently, the company crystallized its focus as a cloud-based security operations platform that VARs can resell and MSSPs can leverage in their own businesses.

That messaging has caught on with partners and customers. Indeed, the company reached a $4.3 billion valuation in July 2021. Around the same time, Arctic Wolf promoted President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Schneider to CEO. Then, the company in  November 2021 opened its first European security operations center (SOC) in Frankfurt, Germany.

Arctic Wolf Customer and Partner Base

The Arctic Wolf security operations platform ingests and analyzes more than 1.6 trillion security events weekly. More than 2,300 customers now use the platform.

Furthermore, Arctic Wolf offers a channel partner program. In 2021, Arctic Wolf expanded its channel-focused security services and operations to EMEA,  and launched its Managed Security Awareness training solution.
